The Teamsters Union has gotten the go-ahead from workers at a second Con-way Freight terminal to represent them in talks with company management, but were turned back at two other locations in votes all supervised by the National Labor Relations Board.

In downtown Los Angeles, a narrow majority of employees voted in favor of union representation, while workers at the company’s Santa Fe Springs and San Fernando Valley locations voted against representation.

"We were gratified that our employees in Santa Fe Springs and San Fernando Valley, after hearing all the facts, chose to maintain their union-free status and voted to reject the union,” said Greg Lehmkuhl, president of Con-way Freight.

Lehmkuhl added that the company was disappointed with the results of the election in downtown Los Angeles, and is currently investigating whether any unlawful or other conduct occurred that may have interfered with the employees' right to make a free decision in the election.

The votes follow one in September where a little more 100 employees at the Con-way Freight Terminal in Laredo, Texas voted to join the Teamsters, marking the first time workers at the trucking company have voted to join the union.
