Kenworth added the Driver Performance Assistant option for new T680 and T880 models equipped with Paccar MX-13 engines and automated transmissions. The system is part of the Driver Performance Center which tracks vehicle efficiency statistics.

When the option is added, drivers are given feedback on how their driving impacts wear on breaks and fuel economy, coaching them into more optimal performance.

“Competition breeds improved performance,” said Kurt Swihart, marketing director at Kenworth. “The assistant may calculate if they performed at a very high level — 80% or more — or it may give them a low score to help indicate where improvements may be made.”

When the truck is at rest, drivers can view trip performance and see how they are performing in regards to efficiency and the system gives them a performance rating. The assistant will then display tips on how the driver can improve.

“We think fleets will utilize this technology, especially to help new or inexperienced drivers maximize performance,” said Swihart. “These little reminders can help make more of a positive impact on performance than one might think.”
