The Truckload Carriers Association has named Jannie Reece a Highway Angel for putting out a fire on an Alabama motorist’s car. Reece is from Waynesboro, Tennessee, and drives for Transco Lines in Arkansas.

Reece was on Interstate 20 in Leeds, Alabama, when a small car pulled up beside her and caught on fire. The driver pulled to the side of the road with flames coming out of both sides and the front of the car.

Reece stopped her truck, grabbed her fire extinguisher and began fighting the flames.

As the flames were subsiding, the driver of the car opened the hood to look at the engine despite Reece advising him against it. More flames came out from under the hood and Reece sprayed it, burning her hand in the process.

Reece called 911 and responders arrived thanking her for her actions. The driver also thanked her and gave her a hug.

“Over the years I have kept my philosophy that you have to pay it forward if you want good things to come to you,” said Reece. “I don’t want anyone to be hurt if I can help it.”

For her deeds the TCA presented Reece with a Highway Angel certificate, patch and lapel pin and her employer, Transco Lines, also received a certificate.
