As of Wednesday, everyone will have to get used to writing 2014, and for those driving in Illinois, they will have to get used to increased speed limits on some highways.
The Illinois Department of Transportation released a map which highlights those portions of the Illinois interstate highways with the increased 70 mph speed limit, effective Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Most of the Chicago metropolitan area is exempt from the increased speed limit, and in most cases is retaining the 55 mph speed limit. In addition, lower speed limits can also be found in the metro East St. Louis area as well as Peoria, Springfield, Effingham, Mt. Vernon, and elsewhere.
