FHWA Seeks Clearance for Truck Parking Survey

The U.S. Transportation Department’s Federal Highway Administration is seeking to move forward with a study about truck parking.

In a Federal Register notice published this week it said it is seeking approval from the White House Office of Management and Budget for what it calls the “U.S.DOT Survey and Comparative Assessment of Truck Parking Facilities.”

The U.S. DOT was directed by Congress to perform this survey in the highway funding reauthorization bill that was signed into law last year to evaluate the capability of the states to provide adequate parking and rest facilities for commercial motor vehicles engaged in interstate transportation.

FHWA is looking to get input from state transportation departments as well as from owners of private trucking facilities, such as truckstops, along with trucking companies and truck drivers.

There is no indication when the survey would begin.
