The Colorado Department of Transportation recently closed a rest area in west Glenwood Springs off of I-70 in a move to cut costs.

The Glenwood Springs rest area is only one of four facilities voted to be closed by the Colorado Transportation Commission.

The site will be redeveloped by the CDOT into a place for emergency truck parking to help congestion in especially during emergency closes of the highway.

The closure of the four rest areas is expected to save the state approximately $300,000 each year just in maintenance costs.
