Interstate 44 at West Bypass (Route 160) in Springfield, Mo., will be closed starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 and will remain closed until as late as 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 to allow contractor crews to remove half of the West Bypass bridge over I-44.

The east half of the West Bypass bridge over I-44 is being taken down as part of a project to replace the West Bypass bridge over I-44. The project involves replacing the West Bypass bridge over I-44 one-half at a time, adding a new traffic signal on the south end of the bridge and upgrading the existing traffic signal on the north end.

The projected completion date for the project is May 2013.

The suggested detours include:

Westbound- Exit I-44 at Route 65, then take Route 60 west to Route 360 to I-44 West.
Eastbound- Exit I-44 at Route 360 to Route 60 East to Route 65 north to I-44 East.
