U.S. Highway 54 between Louisiana, Mo., and Bowling Green, Mo., will close on June 18 for a two-month project as two bridges on the route are replaced.
Trucks with a gross weight less than 40,000 pounds can use US 61, Route B and MO 79 around the closure. Heavier trucks cannot use this route because a bridge on Mo 79 is limited to vehicles of 20 tons or less. (Photo courtesy of MoDOT)

The Missouri Department of Transportation says drivers should plan extra time into trips to allow for the detour.

Commercial vehicle drivers are urged to follow a specific route which includes four-lane highways -US 61 and Interstate 72. The map of this route is available at http://www.modot.mo.gov/northeast/safe_sound/documents/Comm_Rte54_Detour.pdf.

The detour used by passenger vehicles is a narrow two-lane route that cannot handle a large volume of commercial vehicles.
