Three major truckload carriers, Knight Transportation, Celadon Group and Swift Transportation, each announced profitable fourth quarter results.

Knight Transportation Inc. reported total revenue increased 19% to $224.1 million from $188.3 million in the 2010 quarter. Revenue before fuel surcharge increased 14.6% to $181 million compared to $158 million previous year. Net income per diluted share increased 30.0% to $0.22 compared to $0.17 in the 2010 quarter, and net income increased 22.7% to $17.5 million compared to $14.2 million in 2010.

Celadon reported its revenue for the quarter increased 6.3% to $141.5 million in the 2011 quarter from $133.1 million in the 2010 quarter. Freight revenue, which excludes fuel surcharges, increased to $112.4 million in the 2011 quarter from $111.6 million in the 2010 quarter. Net income increased 86.2% to $5.4 million in the 2011 quarter from $2.9 million for the same quarter last year. Earnings per diluted share increased to $0.24 in the 2011 quarter from $0.13 for the same quarter last year.

Total Revenue for Swift 10.3% to $860.7 million and net revenue increased 5.1% to $695.3 million compared to the same quarter of 2010. Earnings per diluted share was $0.29 compared to $0.28 per share in the same quarter of 2010. Trucking Revenue, which excludes fuel surcharges, increased 4.2% to $600.4 million. The company's Weekly Trucking Revenue per Tractor of $3,018 exceeded $3,000 for the third quarter in a row.
