The Illinois Department of Transportation will close Interstate 57 for an expected three days next week.
On Tuesday, August 16, Interstate 57 at Mile Marker 1 north- and south-bound will be closed to all traffic, both north and southbound to allow the contractor to make bridge repairs. This is anticipated to be a three-day closure, August 16, 17 and 18.
Motorists can take one of two detours.
Southbound I-57: Take IL 3 (Exit 1), IL 146, Missouri 74 through Cape Girardeau on Interstate 55.
Northbound I-57: Take Interstate 55 in Missouri, Missouri 74, through Cape Girardeau, to IL 146, then to IL 3 and Interstate 57.
Due to the high volume of traffic, the marked detour is expected to be congested with probable delays. Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route.
