The average price of a gallon of diesel is now more than a dollar less than it was a year ago, falling 2.2 cents from last week.


Weekly figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show the average national price is $2.246 per gallon. The highest prices were found in the New England region, at $2.583. The lowest were in the Gulf Coast region at $2.189.

Crude oil futures are still hovering around $40 per barrel, closing at $40.08 Monday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, according to the Wall Street Journal online.
