Shell Oil Co., Houston, TX, honored the most beautiful trucks in the nation during the 15th annual Shell SuperRigs truck beauty contest, held June 19-21 at the TravelCenters of America, Ontario, CA.
Truckers competed for prizes and a chance to be one of 13 rigs featured in the 1998 Shell SuperRigs calendar. Judging was based on the exterior of the truck only, focusing on overall appearance, artwork, detail of finish, originality and workmanship. Only working trucks operating in inter- or intrastate commerce were eligible.
Those honored included:
• Best of Show — Tod Job, 1996 Peterbilt 379, Jefferson City, MO.
• Classic division — Ron Kelsey, 1981 Peterbilt 359, Peoria, AZ.
• Tractor division — Thomas Smith, 1990 Peterbilt 379, Goldsboro, NC.
• Tractor/Trailer division — Tracy Jones, 1994 Peterbilt 379/1996 Great Dane, Cincinnati, OH.
