LTL giant Consolidated Freightways, Vancouver, Wash., has signed a two-year agreement to handle shipments for Direct2Government.com, a Web site linking food manufacturers with government agencies.

The site, sponsored by food distributor LA Foods, went online in June and has signed up more than 75 large suppliers and more than 400 government-financed institutions, such as prisons, hospitals, and schools.
David Fox, President of Direct2Government.com, said the value of the CF agreement should be over $1 million in the current year, but is expected to be much more during the life of the contract.
Fox also noted that food companies that use Direct2Government.com can ship as little as one pallet at a time. This ability to handle small amounts shipments was important to Direct2Government.com.
