The American Trucking Associations and the Georgia Motor Truck Association will kick off National Truck Driver Appreciation week Monday with a highway safety demonstration in Atlanta.
Called "Drivers Deliver Safely," the event will feature members of ATA’s America’s Road Team demonstrating safe driving practices to help Atlanta-area motorists and truckers drive more safely.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, August 12-19, is designed to thank the country’s 3 million professional truck drivers for their contributions to the economy and to safer highways.
Georgia is one of the busiest trucking areas in the U.S. In 1998, the state recorded 2,192 fatal highway crashes, with 195 involving trucks. The driver of the car initiated 70% of the state’s 195 fatal truck crashes, with at least 35% occurring in the blind spots around large trucks.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the M.S. Carriers Terminal, located at I-285 and Bouldercrest in Atlanta.
