The American Moving and Storage Assn. has dropped out of the American Trucking Assns. The decision to withdraw was not a surprise, since AMSA signaled its intentions last December.

The move was triggered by ATA’s ongoing restructuring, which requires ATA members to join a state trucking association. Most movers have their own state associations, and would not agree to join an ATA association.
It’s a no-fault divorce, based on the movers’ recognition that their business is substantially different from the general-freight core of ATA. “AMSA has long valued its relationship with ATA and we would like to continue that relationship in an appropriate forum,” said the officers of AMSA in their December letter to ATA.
