A bill to allow longer rigs in Maine received preliminary approval in the Maine Senate this week.
The bill, LD 2370, would allow tractor trailers to be up to four feet longer to accommodate trucks with larger sleepers.

The longest cab and single trailer combinations now allowed on designated Maine highways are 70 feet. The bill is supported by the Maine Motor Transport Association.
A state Transportation Department official told the Bangor Daily News that safety concerns about having longer trailers were offset by increased safety of having better rest conditions for drivers.
