An 18-month project is underway to improve the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 between Bijou and Fillmore Streets in Colorado Springs. Northbound traffic will be rerouted to a temporary road alongside the southbound lanes of I-25.
As part of the $17 million project, curves will be straightened; a continuous acceleration/deceleration lane will be built; interchanges at Uintah Street and Fontanero Street will be rebuilt; and ramps at Bijou Street and Fillmore Street will be extended.
Although the project will require minor detours and a change in travel lanes, ample signage and advanced notification will help prepare drivers for the transition. Drivers should be aware that southbound and northbound traffic will be closer in proximity and separated by a concrete barrier, that ramps to and from northbound I-25 at Fontanero Street will be closed throughout the majority of the project, traffic will exit at Uintah Street, and ramps to and from northbound I-25 at Bijou, Uintah and Fillmore streets will be in slightly different locations.
