Yellow Corp. is the latest fleet to become involved in an online venture which provides business-to-business transportation services.

The company has announced an alliance with venture capital firms, TL Ventures and EnerTech Capital Partners to form Transportation.com. The new venture, expected to launch in the second quarter, will be headed by James D. Ritchie, former Ryder Integrated Logistics vice president.
Yellow believes shippers, private fleets, and competing carriers will be able to use Transportation.com to leverage Yellow's industry position, purchasing clout and technical expertise.
"We have joined forces with Transportation.com because they have proven, practical transportation industry experience and strength, creative vision, ability to recognize opportunities in the marketplace and a strong technical team," said Robert E. Keith, managing director of TL Ventures.
In his previous position as vice president, Global Vertical Industries for Ryder Integrated Logistics in Yorba Linda, CA., Jim Ritchie's responsibilities included a range of business and strategic development functions for six of Ryder's eight vertical industries.
"Through its affiliation with Yellow Corporation, Transportation.com already possesses a significant understanding of its potential customers. This new Internet venture, with its ability to capture real time data, will heighten this understanding and enable us to develop lasting, profitable one-to-one relationships with our customers," said Ritchie.
