FDX Corp, parent company of FedEx and RPS, is expected to announce plans to change the name of its Pittsburgh-based RPS package carrier to reflect the FedEx brand.

According to Traffic World, in the two years since it acquired Caliber Systems, FDX has kept all its sister companies separate. However, that is scheduled to change as FedEx tries to keep pace with competitor UPS, which two months ago had a historic initial public stock offering.
The name change will take place at the same time that RPS starts offering residential delivery service in March.
UPS and FedEx are recognizable brands, notes one analyst, but RPS is not, so the new move makes a lot of sense on a marketing level.
