The Office of Motor Carrier Safety's web site has a new section which provides detailed information on accidents and safety issues.

The Analysis and Information Online page has four basic components:
* SafeStat (Safety Status Measurement System) Online, a tool to determine the safety status of commercial carriers and identify and prioritize which motor carriers should receive compliance reviews and roadside inspections.
* Crash Profiles Online, containing large truck crash statistics for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
* OMCS Program Performance Measures Online with analysis of the effectiveness of roadside inspections and compliance reviews in preventing future truck crashes.
* Current Truck Safety Analysis Online, featuring analyses of truck safety issues such as drug and alcohol testing results and new entrant safety.
The OMCS Web site address will be www.fmcsa.dot.gov when the new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is established in January. Meantime the address is wwww.mcs.dot.gov. Click on A and I for the new page.
