USFreightways, parent company of five regional less-than-truckload carriers, plans to link those carriers together to offer a coast-to-coast long-haul service.
Traffic World magazine reports the new service will be called USF Expedited and will be formally announced within the next few weeks. Coast-to-coast service will take four to five days, instead of the seven or eight days it takes for a typical LTL load. Analysts familiar with the plan say the new service will coast about 25% more than USF's standard rates, reports the magazine.
USF expects record net earnings when it reports the results for its second quarter that ended July 3.
