The California Highway Patrol is cracking down on speeding and tired truckers in the San Diego area.

“Operation Truck Stop,” announced Friday, will use airplanes to monitor the highways while special “strike teams” patrol in low-profile cars with radar, reports the Associated Press.
The CHP also plans to hold seminars for commercial truck drivers.
“The main purpose of the program is to increase safety on the region’s highways,” says the CHP’s Don Watkins. “Although big-rig operators are some of the most experienced drivers on the highway today, we have not seen the same rate of reduction in accidents when compared with private vehicles.”
