Ryder Partners with Women in Trucking to Develop Female-Friendly Vehicles

To respond to the increasing number of women choosing careers as professional truck drivers and to inspire more women to consider the transportation industry as a career, Ryder System, announced a partnership with Women In Trucking, a non-profit organization established to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry.

Sleep Apnea CPAP Battery Test Now Underway at Major Fleet, TMC Says

PITTSBURGH -- A field test of battery-powered CPAP devices to combat sleep apnea among drivers is now underway with the help of three suppliers and a major truckload fleet, according to a report at a task force meeting of the Technology & Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Associations.

TMC Sets 5-Year Goals, Names ‘Spark Plug’ Honorees at Big Annual Meeting

The Technology & Maintenance Council of ATA opened its annual meeting and exposition in Nashville yesterday evening by announcing healthy attendance and describing goals set by a Strategic Planning Committee. Officers also named seven recipients of the Silver Spark Plug award for service to the organization.

Cummins, Eaton to Offer Integrated ‘Powertrain Package’

SmarTorque2 ISX15 mates with Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated mechanical transmission via special programming to “downspeed” cruising RPMs and yield high efficiency, the companies say.

Cummins Inc. and Eaton Corp. have devised a fuel-saving, integrated engine-transmission combination that will rival proprietary offerings from some truck builders.

TMC Accepting Technician Scholarship Applications

The Technology & Maintenance Council of American Trucking Associations is accepting applications for its 2013 scholarship programs available for diesel technician studies. The scholarships are for studies at WyoTech, the University of Northwestern Ohio, and Lincoln Technical Institute/Lincoln College of Technology/Nashville Auto Diesel College.
