Falling Debris Prompts Immediate Maryland Bridge Inspections

Acting Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn ordered the immediate inspection of all state-owned bridges of similar age and condition to the Capital Beltway Bridge which is currently under repairs.

Truck Driver Was Distracted Before Bridge Crash, NTSB Says

A truck driver reported that he was distracted just before he ran into the car in front of him, pushing it off of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge into the water 27 feet below.

Maryland Implements New Truck Restriction Along Part of State Route 75

In an effort to address what it says is an ongoing problem with trucks getting stuck under a railroad overpass, the Maryland State Highway Administration is implementing a new truck restriction on a section of MD 75 (Green Valley Road) near Monrovia in Frederick County.

Maryland Demonstrates Drivewyze Wireless Bypass Service

Federal and industry luminaries gathered at a Maryland truck weigh station Monday to observe the latest in wireless bypass technology. The state implemented the Drivewyze system last September and has found that it helps focus its enforcement efforts.

A more than $4 billion, six year transportation funding package signed into law late last week by Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley relies heavily on increases taxes on diesel and gasoline.

Maryland Gov. Fuel Tax Plan Similar to Virginia's

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has borrowed a page from Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s playbook, with proposed changes to the state’s tax on gasoline to raise highway funds. According to published reports there is no indication that it would affect the diesel fuel tax.
