UPDATED -- A new U.S. Labor Department report shows there was a net gain of 204,000 jobs in the country during October, far more than economists were predicting, while trucking added just a few jobs.

Following a string of at least slightly encouraging economic reports, two new economic reports are disappointing. U.S. consumer confidence fell this month to a five-month low, while personal spending in August increased for the fourth consecutive month.
