Truck Driving Championships Draws 7 Women Competitors

The 2007 National Truck Driving Championships will feature a record number seven female drivers competing in Minneapolis.
"I'm thrilled that seven women have won state competitions through their dedication
to safe driving practices and will compete at nationals," said American Trucking Associations Vice President and Women in Trucking Board Member Elisabeth Barna. "Hopefully this exposure will encourage more women to consider a career within the trucking industry."
The National Truck Driving Championships include the individual winners in eight competing categories from each of the 50 states. Nearly 400 top professional truck drivers will travel to Minneapolis this week to compete in their respective classes. One contestant will drive away as the National Grand Champion Truck Driver this Saturday.
2007 female competitors include:

Linda J. Courtney, Watkins & Shepard Trucking (Montana) Five-Axle
Janet R. Hoard, FedEx Express (Kentucky) Straight Truck
Lisa Jones, Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. (South Carolina) Straight Truck
Linda Nodland, Leavitt's Freight Service (Oregon) Flatbed
Karen Roderick, FedEx Ground (Connecticut) Straight Truck
Jacqueline S. Spangler, ExxonMobil Corp. (Maryland) Tank Truck
Karen Tierney, FedEx Express (West Virginia) Straight Truck
