The Palace Truck Stop outside New Orleans is holding a driver's appreciation event April 17-18.

Country gospel music artist Kenny Robbins will provide live entertainment, and trucking radio personality Dave Nemo will do a live remote from the event. Local vendors will provide free food and drink for drivers. Drivers can participate in games such as a pie-eating contest and a boot toss contest. There also will be door prizes, and gifts for CDL holders and their immediate families.
The event will start around 9 a.m. each morning and last until around sundown.
Fuel Manager John McDaniel says the five-year-old truckstop decided to host the event to show their appreciation for the drivers, both local and over-the-road.
"We're trying to make our business more well known," he said. "We're off the beaten path a little bit, and we still have a lot of drivers coming in who said they didn't know we were here." The Palace offers large showers with fluffy white towels, a trucker store and a full-service restaurant. It is located about 3 miles off of I-10, at Exit 2C on I-510.
