A Mack Vision truck is gearing up to haul the holiday tree to the U.S. capitol this month, and Colorado’s Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell will be behind the wheel for much of the trip.
The 65-foot Colorado Blue Spruce will be transported from Colorado’s Pike National Forest on a trailer on Nov. 20 and loaded onto the rig, stopping at various communities for celebrations along the way in Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. The tree is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Dec. 4.
Campbell, who holds a Commercial Driver’s License, a long time supporter of trucking and truck drivers, is presently the only American Indian serving in either the United States Senate or the House of Representatives. He met with truckers who convoyed to Washington, D.C., in February, and as a result introduced a bill that would have suspended the 24-cent federal excise tax on diesel fuel.
This is the eighth year in a row that Mack has provided transportation for the tree. One truck will be used to haul the tree, and another will transport ornaments made by Colorado children, as well as stuffed Mack Bulldog toys that will be donated to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation campaigns at stops during the trip.
