More than 200 community, government and industry leaders gathered for the conference titled Moving Goods From Here to There: Improving Metropolitan Chicago's Freight Transportation Network.

Hosted by the Metropolitan Planning Council and Business Leaders for Transportation,
the event examined freight and logistics sector's challenges, particularly in light of the growing influence of e-commerce on delivery standards.
Attendees suggested items to be included in an action agenda of recommendations to improve the distribution capacity of the region's freight system, while speakers stressed that advances in infrastructure must be made a number-one priority and that they need to "regain the lead with technology, public/private partnerships, communication coordination and innovative investment." Other topics discussed included finding funding resources and development partnerships within the industry to better prepare for future demand.
