Parents Against Tired Truckers last week urged Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater to ignore a request by the American Trucking Assns. to delay hours of service regulations until after a new Motor Carrier Administration is formed.

"Any further delay in announcing a proposed HOS rule is unacceptable," wrote Daphne Izer, co-chairperson, in a Friday letter to Slater. "People continue to die on our nation's highways at an alarming rate, and we are counting on you, Mr. Slater, to live up to your slogan, 'Safety is your highest priority.'"
PATT sent copies of the letter to trucking media, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Jim Hall, Office of Motor Carrier and Highway Safety head Julie Cirillo, and several members of Congress who have been pushing for truck safety reform.
