Dec. 9 – Western Star Trucks plans to start building a new truck manufacturing facility next month in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The plant, which is expected to start producing Class 8 trucks about a year after construction begins, will increase Western Star’s truck assembly capacity. Strong truck demand has left the company with a back order for more than 6,600 of its highly customized trucks. Western Star’s Kelowna, British Columbia, facility recently increased production to 29 trucks a day, and the company is looking into ways to increase production even further.
