Dec. 18 – A group of cities and transportation planners in Morris County, NJ, have applied for $600,000 in federal funding to study ways to reduce traffic on Route 287 – including charging tolls to deter truckers.
The mayor of Riverdale, a small town which has six entrance and exit ramps onto the highway, says tolls aren’t the answer, reports the Associated Press. He’d rather limit trucks to 45 mph. “Tolls won’t slow anybody down,” said Michael Dedio. “You want to carry 80,000 [pounds], you have to go 45 mph. I would lead that fight.”
