GotQuestions? Wheel End

Q. You released Aeris by STEMCO, your Automatic Tire Inflation System (ATIS) two years ago. What makes it different from an engineering and maintenance perspective?

A. At STEMCO, we’re wheel end experts, and over the years, we have observed a real problem with wheel ends getting pressurized, seals failing, and lubricants being discharged, due to faulty inflation systems releasing air into the hub. We designed Aeris on the principle of never, ever pressurizing the wheel end. We believe, and our testing shows, that Aeris sets a new standard for reliability and low maintenance.

Aeris is different in several critical features that increase safety and reliability while reducing maintenance. The first, and key, difference is the rotary seal – where the system transmits air from the stationary axle to the rotating wheel end. Aeris employs a vastly different, and patented, sealing technology that is unique and far superior to the seals used in all other ATIS on the market today. Aeris seals have been put through rugged tests and have lasted up to 4.5 million miles. That translates to significantly reduced maintenance costs and assurance that your wheel end is safe. Second, the Aeris driver warning lamp is driven by a sensitive electronic flow sensor that can tell the difference between a slight leak and a serious leak. Now the driver can make an informed choice about driving to the next truck stop or pulling over immediately. Finally, Aeris hoses include fill ports, so that air can be added, or tire pressures checked, without disconnecting anything – a real time saver.
