Oil boom needs special equipment on trailers and trucks

Crude oil analyzer was installed on this Heil tanker by Rush Peterbilt's shop in San Antonio as part of its work to support the oil boom in the region, says Service Manager Fred Scott.

December 13, 2011

No one wants to haul a load that's going to be rejected, so checking the commodity before loading makes a lot of sense. That's why Rush Enterprise's Peterbilt store in San Antonio has been installing a special piece of gear on tank trailers at a customer's request.

'What Are Those Things?' Liquid Storage Tanks, That's What

"Frac" tanks pause in Ohio en route from Delaware to Colorado. Manufacturer's specs say they hold up to 21,000 gallons and are used at construction sites to store water and at oil and gas wells to hold fracturing fluids.

February 6, 2011

Every so often I see one of these odd, squarish trailers being pulled down an interstate and wonder, "What are those things?" Last fall, while driving down U.S. 23 near Toledo, I spotted a pair parked in a lot and swung around to check 'em out

Hello, Dolly! New TMC Recommendations on Dolly Details

Large handles on a dolly’s tongue help a driver raise it without undue strain. Tongue jacks eliminate most lifting, but jacks need safeguards to avoid damage. (Photo courtesy TMC)

September 28, 2010

Converter dollies have been around so long that you'd think every one on the road is built about as correctly as can be. But some lack handles that drivers can grasp to lift dollies' front ends, and those might also be the ones that don't have enough counterbalancing weight
