Powered Trailer Axle Provides an Off-Road Boost

Run off the tractor's wet kit, the hydraulically driven axle adds traction in rough conditions and can eliminate 4x4s used by some European operators.

“SAF Trak” axle is powered from the tractor’s hydraulic wet kit. On the trailer, two hydraulic motors, one at each axle end, turn the wheels to help get the rig moving in slippery conditions.

Tanker Fleet Manager Praises Air Disc Brakes

ULX40 Follows Trend Toward Mechanical Suspensions on Vans

New composite leaf springs should last longer than steel and ride almost as well as air-ride, SAF-Holland says.

Composite springs vary in shape and thickness across their length. ULX40, with 40,000-pounds capacity, comes with drum or disc brakes.

Air-ride's more complex and requires more maintenance, so some fleets that watch costs very closely never got on the air-ride band wagon.
