Money-Saving Tip to Remove Vinyl Signage

Vinyl vehicle wraps and signage on your fleet vehicles are great mobile advertisements for your business. But removing the signage before you sell the vehicle can be a royal pain in the seat cushion. Outsource it or do it in-house, it could cost you $200 and up to take one off.

David Ziker of Ziker Cleaners and Uniforms in South Bend, Ind. has a great idea: he rents a portable electric or gas heater, like a mini version of the type used on the sidelines of a football game on a cold day. (You can rent a 10 to 30 KW heater for $40 to $80 a day.) He puts the heater inside his van and heats the metal until it's hot to the touch. This takes about a half hour if it's not too cold out. The vinyl peels off easily.

This technique works excellent for cargo vans and box trucks, provided the walls of the truck are metal. The surface must be metal and heated on the opposite side of the signage; you can't aim it directly at the sign.

Therefore it won't work for cars and pickups but works great for cargo vans and box trucks with metal walls.

If anyone uses this trick let me know how it works out!
