Corporate anniversaries are often marked with special parties for employees, customers and communities. But Love's celebrated its 50th anniversary on Valentine's day with hundreds of employees volunteering in the community.

In an event aptly called Share the Love, 500-plus Oklahoma City-based corporate employees clad in special yellow T-shirts spent Valentine’s Day volunteering in the Oklahoma City community where Love's is based.

Morning volunteers packed nutritious food boxes -- the equivalent of 37,691 meals -- at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to be distributed to area families. Afternoon volunteers mentored children at the Boys & Girls Club of Memorial Park in Oklahoma County.

"Some people celebrate their birthday with a party in their own honor," says David Holt, Oklahoma State Senator from District 30. "Instead Love's is celebrating their bithrday with a party in the community's honor and giving back to the community, and I think that's just fantastic."

The family-owned travel stop company says it continually identifies needs and organizes various employee volunteer opportunities throughout the year. For example, after the May 20, 2013, tornado in Moore, Okla., employees were given the opportunity to complete eight hours of tornado relief volunteer work during company business hours. Love’s donated $3 million to support immediate and long-term relief efforts and underwrote the nationally televised concert, Healing in the Heartland, which raised more than $6.5 million for long-term tornado relief efforts.

Love’s sponsors local organizations, including the Oklahoma City Thunder and other local professional sports teams and college athletic programs, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, the Oklahoma City Zoo and more. Love’s also has raised a total of $9.5 million in 15 years of supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
