Diesel fuel hit a new two-year high on Tuesday, jumping 7.4 cents a gallon from last week, the Department of Energy reported Tuesday.
Diesel now sits 18.7 percent or 53.7 cents higher than at this time last year. The last time diesel topped this week's price was Oct 20, 2008, when it hit a national average price of $3.48 per gallon.

The price of crude oil swung dramatically during Tuesday's trading day, dropping 16 cents a barrel before closing a $91.38. Intraday trading saw crude oil prices fluctuate, trading as low as $90.48 earlier in the session. Also pressuring oil prices was the Monday reopening of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline after it was out of service for 10 days, MarketWatch.com reported.

Crude oil has been trading at more than $91 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, also the highest level since 2008, Bloomberg reported.
