PacWest Global, a Portland, Ore.-based marketing company, is marketing zzzBox, a new auxiliary power unit technology.

ZzzBox connects directly to the reefer unit and taps available power and converts it to free AC power to the cab, without requiring heavy batteries or diesel. Professional installation is not required. ZzzBox is solid state, weighs 50 pounds and requires no maintenance, according to PacWest, which says the device can offers a return on investment of six months or less.

The unit provides AC power directly to the cab without idling. This allows the driver to run air conditioning or heat as well as other AC appliances including laptops, charging systems for iPods, games, etc.

ZzzBox simply attaches to the underside of the reefer unit in less than one hour.
