ConocoPhillips has developed two new low ash natural gas engine oils to meet the performance demands of high-output natural gas engines.
ConcoPhillips has added the premium low ash natural gas engine oil, El Mar LA4EXD, and its mainline low ash product, El Mar Low Ash, to its product line.

"At ConocoPhillips Lubricants, we understand the challenges of keeping natural gas engines operating at peak condition under the most demanding circumstances," said Reginald Dias, director, commercial products, ConocoPhillips. "Operators who use our new El Mar LA4 EXD formulation stand to benefit from enhancements in wear reduction, engine parts cleanliness, valve recession control and ability for extending oil drain service."

The El Mar LA4 EXD is a premium quality, low ash dispersant-detergent gas engine oil designed for use in four-stroke cycle engines fueled by natural gas or LPG. It includes high-quality group II base stocks and a field-proven performance additive, which the company says will provide excellent engine cleanliness, deposits control, and wear and corrosion reduction. The new technology also provides for extended oil drain service. The new low ash technology helps to protect emissions control devices such as catalytic converters and exhaust aftertreatment from fouling from high ash or catalyst poisons.

The El Mar Low Ash offers oxidation and nitration control, reduced valve seat recession and enhanced engine cleanliness, the company says. This can minimize exhaust valve recession, guttering, deposits formation and plug fouling. The low ash formulation is compatible with catalytic converters and other exhaust aftertreatment devices.

"Most notably, both new premium and mainline natural gas engine oils will keep critical components free from sludge and deposits, prevent deterioration of valves and help to reduce maintenance costs," said Dias.
