Mentor Engineering has released the new Mentor Fleet Monitor, a comprehensive service that provides vehicle monitoring capabilities.
The service can track the unnecessary idling and excessive speed of fleet vehicles to help minimize operating costs.

The program works by sending data, such as speed or idling information, from the in-cab computer to a server, which is hosted by Mentor. With the data, reports are created for the user, giving fleets the opportunity to identify at-risk drivers and develop training programs to encourage safer driving practices, and reduce fuel costs.

These reports can be customized depending on each vehicle in the fleet. After choosing which reports they want, and how often they want them generated, the user receives the reports automatically via e-mail and can view the precise location of each speed or idling event on a satellite map for an additional layer of tracking accuracy and context.

"With the ability to track when and where vehicles exceed a speed threshold and reducing the avoidable idling of vehicles, clients can encourage better driver behavior and see real fuel savings," said Mike Koebel, vice president of sales and business development at Mentor. "Monitoring vehicle idling also provides another way to support green initiatives."
