Sleep Pointe is teaming up with ACS Expedited Solutions to use the TripPak Truck Stop Scanning network to offer carriers a sleep apnea safety compliance reporting system

According to ACS, truck drivers are more likely than the general public to suffer from sleep apnea, a chronic condition that disrupts sleep when breathing pauses or becomes shallow, resulting in poor sleep quality and fatigue when awake. The National Transportation and Safety Board has recommended requiring sleep apnea screening for drivers.
"With this new solution, carriers can pinpoint at-risk drivers who suffer from sleep apnea and take a proactive approach to safety and compliance," says Kelley Walkup, division vice president and general manager for ACS Expedited Solutions.
To use the system, drivers use Sleep Pointe auto-titrating positive airway pressure (APAP) machines, which are commonly used to treat sleep apnea. The data from the machine can be sent through the TripPak Truck Stop Scanning network to a Sleep Pointe compliance portal managed by ACS.
"Perhaps the most critical factor to consider when designing and implementing a sleep apnea management program is the compliance management system," says Duke Naipohn, president and CEO for Sleep Pointe. "Studies have shown that compliance, if unsupported, results in compliance levels that fall below 40 percent. To get the best returns from a sleep apnea management investment, you clearly have to both support the drivers during their initial compliances phase, as well as manage their use over time."
