Aljex has added a driver texting capability to its hosted broker and dispatch application, which allows brokers or dispatchers to send text messages to the driver's cell phone from the Aljex dispatch screen.

Brokers and dispatchers have the option of sending preformatted messages including pick-up addresses, reference numbers, contact information and more. The user texts the driver by clicking "forms" on the active load screen, choosing the appropriate message, and pressing "send." The Aljex system automatically populates the text message with the correct load information and sends the message to the cell phone of the assigned driver.

The text messaging is a one-way service, with no response from the driver needed.

"Texting is an excellent tool for getting accurate information to drivers on the road," said Tom Heine, president of Aljex. "You don't waste phone time spelling things out over the phone, and the driver doesn't make mistakes writing them down. What the driver gets is exactly what you sent from your Aljex screen."

Driver text messages are sent from Aljex servers on the Internet, so a user can send texts from any Internet-enabled computer.
