Rand McNally has released IntelliRoute TND 500, a truck navigation device.
Designed specifically to help truck drivers navigate the roads, the device includes 35 percent more truck-attributed roads and nearly 13,000 truck-related points of interest. It also comes with The Trucker's Friend National Truckstop Directory, which has more than 50 searchable amenities for each location.

The device creates a route based on length, width and height of the truck, as well as the type of route desired. After the unit calculates the most optimized route with the most efficient use of miles and fuel, it provides the driver with turn-by-turn voice directions.

"IntelliRoute TND 500 is designed from the ground up with professional drivers in mind," said Dave Marsh, director of product management, Rand McNally. "It is not simply a re-purposed consumer GPS unit, but a business tool that will make truckers more comfortable and confident while driving."

The IntelliRoute TND 500 also allows drivers to track miles driven in every U.S. state or Canadian province for bookkeeping and fuel tax reporting purposes. Other features of the device include an address book, a quick planner for an upcoming route, Rand McNally's Motor Carriers' Road Atlas, timers and logs, as well as calculator and converter buttons. The company has also introduced Smart Time, a feature that calculates the estimated time of arrival at the destination.

Rand McNally plans on adding real-time overlays such as RoadWork construction updates that allow the user to route around construction delays.
