MTS Driver Recruiters has developed its Driver Recruitment Cost Estimator, a free tool that calculates the total costs of recruiting drivers.

According to MTS, hiring one driver involves sifting through 100 applications, and MTS Driver Recruiters works to reduce the cost of processing the 99 percent of applicants who are not hired. To reduce these costs, MTS uses proprietary techniques as well as its database of over 300,000 commercial truck drivers.

The Cost Estimator software consists of a fill-in-the-blank form, which identifies and quantifies time and costs involved in the hiring process. An industry standard is provided as the default value under each question, and the user then adjusts the data based on their operation. The total cost is determined by taking users' actual data, ratios and hourly labor costs and combining it with outside costs such as advertising.

"The software calculates the total cost per hire, and more importantly, the total cost per non-hire," said Ken Walker, principal of MTS Driver Recruiters. "We developed it for our own use, but now want to make it more readily available to the transportation industry."
