Xtra Lease will add new specialty equipment to its inventory of trailers for rent or lease this summer, including more CARB-compliant reefers.

"For the second time this year, we've ordered new equipment to help fleets manage unique demands," said Bill Franz, XTRA Lease president and CEO. "With new regulations looming for operating reefers in California, we're confident we can assist fleets better serve their customers by having proper equipment that meets the state's regulations. Meanwhile, we've added a variety of other specialty equipment where we've heard from fleets who have distinctive needs."

In addition to reefers to help fleets meet California Air Resources Board regulations come mid-July, the company will introduce several new 48-foot pintle hook trailers for the Northeast, primarily in Albany, N.Y. These trailers feature installed trailer tracking units as well as logistics seams on 24-inch centers, allowing for more flexibility for blocking off loaded cargo within the van.

Xtra Lease will roll out new 28- and 48-foot liftgate trailers with 5,500-pound capacity severe-duty liftgates with large platforms and a 16-inch retention ramp to accommodate the East and West Coasts. The trailers come with a power down/up function that can improve performance in cold weather, according to the company. For the Southwest, the company will introduce new 57-foot dry vans for loading more cargo.

Features of the three dry vans ordered (pintle hooks, liftgates and 57-foot vans) include:

* Composite interiors offering maximum cubic capacity and damage resistance.

* Aluminum roofs.

* Air-ride suspensions with anti-dock walk device and air-assisted slider pin assembly on the units.

* Crossmember spacing on 10-inch centers throughout for increased floor rating capacity.

The company will also be adding more 20-foot/40-foot combination tridem chassis in the West and Midwest. These trailers can hold a loaded 20- or 40-foot container or two empty 20-foot containers.
