Kenworth has added the new T470 to its medium-duty line of vocational and municipal trucks.

"Kenworth is expanding its product line while other truck manufacturers are exiting the market," said Gary Moore, Kenworth assistant general manager for marketing and sales, noting the T470 is well-suited for snowplow, dump, mixer, winch, refuse, and other heavy front-axle vocational and municipal applications.

The new model's 9-liter Cummins ISL engine allows for 345 horsepower and 1,150 pounds-feet of torque. It can be ordered with a range of manual and automatic transmissions and includes 12,000- to 22,000 pound-rated front axles, 21,000- to 26,000 pound-rated single rear axles and 40,000- to 46,000-pound-rated tandem rear axles.

The fixed grille hood with a 50.5-inch bumper setting allows for easy installation of a front engine PTO, the company says. It also comes equipped with halogen projector headlamps.

The interior is similar to Kenworth's Class 8 product line, with the multiplexed dash and large panel for installing body controls and gauges. All models come with the Kenworth Driver Information Center and are available in extended day cab. The interior is larger than the traditional day cab, with 6 additional inches of length and 5 more inches of cab height.

While the company plans to get production under way in July, the trucks are currently available for order.
