Daimler Trucks North America will deploy the Cummins Westport ISL G Natural Gas engine in its Freightliner Business Class M2 112 truck in six liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas configurations.
The company introduced the engine this week in an LNG tractor for port and regional haul applications.

The Cummins Westport engine is an 8.9-liter stoichiometric cooled-exhaust gas recirculation engine, which meets 2010 EPA emissions standards with no aftertreatment required. It has ratings from 250 to 320 horsepower.

"By launching the Cummins Westport ISL G in the M2 112 tractor, Freightliner will be able to provide customers with clean, economic natural gas power for a wide range of applications," Roe East, president of Cummins Westport. "By the end of 2010, Freightliner Trucks expects to have a complete CWI-powered lineup with configuration options for over 90 percent of truck applications in North America."

Daimler plans on rolling out a CNG version of the tractor in late 2009, followed by a CNG single axle tractor and vocational configurations.
