OTC, an SPX brand, introduced its new Pegisys PC Diagnostic System, which offers technicians the option to run Pegisys software in conjunction with a laptop PC for scan tool and reprogramming functionality.

This first-of-its kind aftermarket, PC-based J2534 reprogramming and scan tool-in one-offers the same wireless technology and software as the OTC Pegisys, but now with added J2534 reprogramming capabilities that technicians can run from their shop's own laptop.

"Built for technicians who prefer a PC-based diagnostic solution over a conventional hand-held scan tool, the new Pegisys PC Diagnostic System integrates 27 years of vehicle coverage (1980-2007) for 44 different vehicle makes from more than 25 different manufacturers," said Ed Lipscomb, OTC Senior Product Manager of Diagnostic Systems. Heavy-duty coverage is optional.

The PC Scan's open architecture enables technicians to fundamentally change the way they operate and control their diagnostic systems. For users who have an understanding of computer technology and can embrace this change, the use of an open-architecture environment offers them the option to run specialized software in conjunction with a laptop PC of their choice in place of the Pegisys tool to allow scan tool and reprogramming functionality.

Collectively as a package, the new OTC 3828 provides two tools in one-a high-end wireless diagnostic tool with Internet capability and a J2534 compliant device for vehicle reprogramming-thus eliminating the need to purchase two separate tools while providing more value for less money.

"With reprogramming becoming more and more prevalent in the automotive industry, having J2534 reprogramming capabilities is a must for any forward-thinking shop," said Lipscomb. "And unlike similar reprogramming scan tools in the market, the OTC Pegisys PC Diagnostic System is both SAE J2534-1 and -2 compliant."
