Hendrickson's weight saving SOFTEK integrated front suspension and steer axle system now comes standard on International LoneStar trucks. SOFTEK will also be available as an option on the International ProStar series,
Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems officials announced.

SOFTEK combines Hendrickson's monoleaf steel springs and the rigid, box-shaped STEERTEK axle for outstanding ride and stability and provides a substantial weight savings of up to 92-pounds, compared to a two-leaf configuration with an I-beam axle.

In capacities up to 12,350 pounds, SOFTEK features integrated steering arm and tie rod attachments to increase strength and reduce weight. In addition, the durable, efficient and functional design helps reduce maintenance costs.

The rigid torsion system helps increase stiffness and stability, and optimized steering delivers up to 55 degrees of wheel cut for outstanding maneuverability.

Innovative single-leaf spring technology with shackle redundancy removes the need for a second leaf, which eliminates inter-leaf friction and helps further reduce system weight, providing increased payload and reduced fuel consumption.

SOFTEK utilizes Hendrickson's fabricated STEERTEK axle, which increases stability and handling and contributes to system weight reduction.

The manufacturing process of the STEERTEK axle allows greater design flexibility to meet the varied industry applications. The formed and robotically welded steer axle assembly adds to SOFTEK's significant weight savings compared to traditional forged axles.

STEERTEK's box shaped cross section resists horizontal, vertical and twisting forces more effectively than traditional I-beams, while the two-piece knuckle assembly simplifies kingpin bushing serviceability.
